A strong summer swell kicked up some decent surf Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Narragansett, R.I., so grabbed my gear and headed to one of the local surf spots to capture the action. Just under a dozen surfers were in the lineup on the south side of Point Judith Light, where the waves were a bit blown out, but a solid 4 to 6 feet, with occasionally larger waves. The surf was pounding the shore hard enough that the day's soundtrack included not just the crashing waves, but the rumble of rocks rolling in and out on the shoreline with each swell. I had the pleasure of speaking with a few of the local waveriders, including James Arterberry, who is pictured in this gallery below.
